mfharris1After almost a full month of College Hoops, I’m here to break down the Power E-Rankings showing the most awesomest teams ever, always, so far this season.  These rankings are based on actual facts and are in no way biased.  A team of 7 mathematicians, a statistician and a different kind of mathematician came up with these current rankings.

The below power rankings take into account all games played prior to today (November 30, 2009).

#1   Marquette: After a tough 1 point loss to Florida State in the Old Spice Classic, Marquette still sits atop the leader board as the #1 team in the history of sports because of their huge win over Michigan on Friday.  This will most likely guarantee them a #1 or #2 seed in the NCAA tourney.

#2   Alabama:  Beat Michigan by 2 with 5.4 seconds to go in the 3rd place game of the Old Spice Classic on Sunday.  Thankfully for them, Michigan decided that rebounding is for suckers and 3 pointers are for ballers. Especially missing 36 out of the last 45.

#3   MICHIGAN:  It’s only fitting that MICH ranks 3rd in the nation after losing to the two best teams in the country.  With strong wins over ranked teams such as: (see below) Creighton, Northern MICH and Houston Baptist Michigan will continue to stay on top in the power rankings.  Having a player such as Manny “FRESH” Harris (see left)  on their team who leads the world (College, NBA, European league, etc…) in scoring, assists, rebounds and steals, isn’t hurting the team either.    Their upcoming schedule also includes all but one team in this top 15 power ranking, which shows their true GRIT and MOX(ie).

#4   Kansas: Because of all the hype about returning a bunch of starters Kansas is up here near the top.  Plus their mascot is a bird and birds go CAW!  If they didn’t have Michigan coming to town on Dec. 19th they wouldn’t even come close to the top 15.  That’s an E-fact.

#5   Connecticut: Also a quality team that has faltered a little bit this year because of a few players leaving.  Especially their 12 foot 4 inch Kenyan center, Charles Gitonga Maina, who stared in “The Air Up There” with Kevin Bacon.

#6   Boston College: Playing in the ACC is tough, but having to face up against Michigan in Ann Arbor puts you at #6 in the power rankings.  A win could put you in the top 3 but it’s not happening.

#7   Arkansas: Any school with Ryan Mallett on campus will have a better fill in the blank  team, which includes basketball.  I know he may not play hoops, but if he did could you imagine?  He would just inbound the ball across the court straight into the hoop every time.  But back to the actual BB team; because Mallett is on campus the Basketball team will be doing everything possible to keep hooking up with hawt babes (or at lease the ones Mallett isn’t currently nailing), and that means winning games, putting them at #7.

#8   UtahTook down ranked Illinois this weekend in a close game.  Their next big 10 opponent is Michigan on December 9th.  These two games put them at #8

#9   Creighton: A solid team defensively, holding opponents to 83 points or less.  Strong non-conference schedule will keep them in the top.

#10   Detroit:  It’s so cooooooold in the D!

#11   Northern Michigan: Only lost to MICH by 47 so they must be pretty goodt.

#12   Houston Baptist: Lost to Michigan by only 22 but rank below Northern MICH because of the in-state Rivalry!

#13   Coppin State: Coppin’ a ‘tude?  Probably, they play MICH on December 22nd in a Knight Gamez.  Coppin has been a solid team in the state of….. not sure where they are located exactly but I know it’s not in the State of Coppin, I checked the map, it doesn’t exist.

#14   Iowa: Just makes the ranking because of their overtime win vs. MICH last year (while Manny “Fresh” Harris sat out).  They only play MICH once this year, but it should be a good one.

#15   Duke:  Duke deserves a #15 ranking for playing Michigan twice last year and actually winning one of those games.  This has carried over a season to put them in the top 15. Their current 6-0 record also helps, but it still isn’t as impressive as their loss @ Michigan (last season).

Other considerations: The entire Big Ten (except Iowa and MICH obvs., each team will play Michigan at least once), Wayne State (I know they are D2, but they played MICH in an exhibition game which could boost them into the NCAA tournament.)  Harvard: Tommy Amaker still has some office materials from Michigan, thus bringing them higher in the rankings.
