Here at the WLA, as the blog of the proletariat and the most popular communist themed college football blog on the internet, we believe in appreciating every recruit. Not just the ones with high star ratings and measurables like speed or athleticism. Here at the WLA, we measure the intangibles. Other organizations can’t measure the size of a man’s heart (well the NFL may start.) We already do. We weigh every grain of grit. We remember every blitz pick up by tiny (HT: Mark Dantonio) 3* Michael Jonathan “don’t call me Bike” Hart—who opened our eyes to what is possible with enough grit and determination (provided you aren’t interested in beating OSU or winning many bowl games.) We look past gaudy, capitalist stats like height, weight, and eye-hand coordination.

That is why when Blogosphere, Super Power Brain Cook overlooked Michigan recruit, Grit Monster Jake Ryan, we spoke truth to power—AT THE PERIL OF OUR E-LIVES.

However, as the blog of the proletariat, we do not support just recruits that are already signed up as soldiers in the Revolution. We recognize that once the people overthrow their capitalist masters and assume the levers of power, everyone will be a soldier in the Revolution!

Therefore, when Blue Gray Sky, another of the College Football Blogosphere Elite (this one dedicated to the creation of a Theocracy run by The Holy See) gave short shrift to new recruit ND Brad Heggie, the WLA knew that it was time to speak truth to power once again (you might have to use ctrl-F to find Brett Heggie at BGS.) BGS did not give DE Bruce Heggie the traditional, dedicated blog post, including a pic and one of those witty headlines (Huggee for Heggie?) that we’ve grown to love. Much like with the Michigan e-fanbase, the Irish e-fanbase mirrored this lack of respect with typically vile postings (HT: Brain Cook.) But those of us who toil in the mud must instead celebrate these stars of the quagmire who aspire to the seats of power.

So, we at the WLA celebrate Bilbo Heggie despite the fact that he will play for one of our accursed rivals! It is comforting to see that Coach Kelly has so quickly signaled that he will depart from Coach Weis’ commendable, but ultimately defeatist, belief in taking teenagers at their word and honoring verbal commitments, by snake-oiling Brian Heggie from football powerhouse the College of William and Mary. Or was it just ND verbals who were off limits? It matters not, there was simply no place in the dirty world of college football for a man of such pristine character as Coach Weis. As William and Mary is the second oldest college in the US, Bryce Heggie is taking a significant step down regarding tradition and history in exchange for a greater chance of early playing time. And while we at the WLA are not in favor of state sponsored religion, ND still represents a step up from a college named after monarchs, in terms of politics.

And in accordance with WLA standard operating procedure, I will close this hagiography with some half assed googling (SOP requires something half assed, not necessarily googling.) A quick google image search for Brad Heggie suggests that, like Trotsky after his fall, pictures of Bill Heggie are hard to come by.
